MS Access is also a key data source. Power BI should be able to connect to the same. Access allows to create consolidated files from various data sources into one table which then can contain valuable data and business insight.

Hi, we are working on supporting MS Access as data source that can be refreshed from. You can today connect to Access from Power Query or the Power BI Designer and build reports, dashboards on it. Soon we'll also release the capability to refresh these reports from within Power BI.

RE: MS Access

Can Power BI replace MsAccess function? I don't want to run two tools for users. They either use Power BI or MsAccess.

RE: MS Access

Power BI does support connection to Microsoft Access databases, but there are limitations. There is even a way it can be used with limited support for Power BI Service (online).

Can you please clarify those limitations and the status by responding to the following more specific questions?

Thanks for describing that useful workaround.

For the following connection methods:
A) import (embedded offline use),
B) refreshable connection (import and scheduled or manual refresh), and/or
C) live query supported?

Which of the following cases are they supported with?

1) Use from Power BI Desktop app
2) Setup of connection from within Power BI Service (and/or Power BI Report Server?)
4) .pbix imported into Power BI Service (and/or Report Server?)
5) Installed Gateway connected to Access DB (for use from Desktop, Service, Report Server, and/or Mobile Apps?)
6) Mobile Apps (connecting to Gateway directly, to Service, or to .pbix on OneDrive, if possible?)

Also, what, if any, further enhancements for Microosft Access support are under development now or planned?

Thanks again for your help,
Dan

RE: MS Access

Would be nice to embed a PowerBI frame right into an Access form... skip building access reports altogether / use PowerBI instead

RE: MS Access

A great alternative is publishing your Access DB as a webapp to Sharepoint Online. This will actually create a Azure SQL DB in the background which you can connect to directly from Power BI or PBI desktop.
