create multiple apps from same workspace infect from same Dataset without replicating the dataset multiple times.
only option we have now is to update the app and only one app per workspace can be created which a kind of restrict the workspace usability.
If we can create multiple apps share it with different users without creating multiple workspace ... means same dataset no dataset replication, will save the storage as well.

Currently we are not planning to allow multiple apps to be published from one workspace. Soon we will allow you to discover and use a dataset across workspaces. Once we have this capability, we believe much of the need for multiple apps per workspace will be addressed.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

Multiple apps per workspace is absolutely required functionality to manage access to the reports. Other solutions like Tableau allow access control by project or report. This access granularity is necessary to effectively manage publication of the reports to multiple groups without the overhead of separate workspaces.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

We need the ability to hide reports from specific users within the same workspace and this would be the only option to do so.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

If not having multiple apps from the same workspace at least provides the ability to hide reports from within an App for certain group of users. For example, of the 15 reports I want 10 users to see all 15 reports and allow 5 users to view 10 reports.

Using row-level security I can hide the dataset but the app become cluttered because end users see the reports name that they cannot access.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

The issue is not solved by row level security.  PowerBI needs a feature where you can show/hide reports in the workspace/app based on who has access to the report.  For example, imagine there is an HR department who wants a single workspace.  They have very confidential reports called the following: 1) People we are firing this month, 2) Executive bonuses above $1M, and 3) New Company Headquarters Potential Locations.  If you put these reports in the workspace, everyone in HR knows the company is moving its headquarters, firing a bunch of people, and paying its executives outrageous bonuses.  To keep these reports hidden from only those who are part of the project would require 4 workspaces (the three reports listed above and the general HR workspace).  This is a bit cumbersome and would require the Chief HR Officer to access four workspaces to find her/his reports.  With a show/hide option, all these could be in the single workspace and only those with access would know the report exists.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

This feature is required. The whole APP concept is not working out. We need to be able to granularly control who has access to an app and on what level. Right now I need a workspace for every security group with it's own app. Not to talk about changes in schedule and dataset immediately affect the app. This is unnecessary overhead. And also not talking about the problem that the dataset is reusable but not adjustable. So you can not do basic things like combining a company dataset with an excel file. For all this we need to use seperate workspaces and copies of datasets that we can not all track in the end and keep in sync.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

This is needed as we are seeing workspace is created for a Top Business Unit or Function team but there are sub function under it who need different app to control security and access.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

The problem isn't dataset sharing. The problem is scalability and security. We'd have to have many versions of Apps in order to make sure groups are only seeing the reports they need access to. 1-1 App to workspace forces duplicate reports to be hosted in numerous workspaces to customize the app experience each group is getting. This means more reports upkeep not just datasets and also more workspaces to maintain which means access slippage.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

This is absolutely needed to rival other platforms like Qlik. We were planning to use workspaces as a UAT type situation and publish to apps once finalized. This does not look like we can do this now. In Qlik, you can have multiple apps per stream.

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

'This proves Power BI is not ready yet for Enterprise Level BI Implementation. Quite surprised to see how this idea is turned down just like that.

We have reports built for about 10 different departments with specific Dev, UAT and Live environments. Because of Workspace 1-1 relationship we are stuck with 30 workspaces. I hear Lukasz point that shared dataset address the part of the problem by not building many datasets for the same visual representation of the model i.e. in Dev, UAT.

The request here is, how you bundle and deploy contents of workspace to different security groups isolating each other such as sales, marketing and customer care.
@Lukasz can you explain why you believe shared dataset will address the need of multiple apps per workspace?

RE: create multiple apps from same workspace

This feature is still very much required. I want to upload and refresh one version of a report and allow it to be to visible to different groups of staff via apps. I do not want to have to schedule the same report to refresh multiple times which having it in multiple workspaces would force me to do. Please add this feature.
