When using connection to a sql server analysis services cube, unable to enter an mdx query when Connect Live is selected. The text box to enter the query is grayed out. As an alternative, tried Import Data option and this allows entering the mdx query but power bi does not deliver the results set in the mdx query. For example the query results are restricted to this year and power bi returns results for all years in the cube dimension.

Totally agree. I have just started digging into Power BI for real use (not just a fancy report connected to an Excel sheet), and I am really surprised this is not already a feature! Without this we will not be able utilize Power BI for our live reporting needs.

Please add support for MDX queries on a Live Connection!

This would be a great feature to have as a ton of our work involves building reports on the output of MDX queries with an SSAS live connection.

it would really help to:
1. either be able to write your own mdx query against a live connection to SSAS from powerbi (OR/AND)
2. Have easy access to view the MDX call being made to the live connection.

This would be a game changer. We have a big investment in our SSAS OLAP cubes and our analysts count on writing MDX expressions in their work.

It is good if we can have MDX Query Editor / Query Builder in Power BI though we can model the cube with DAX. Waiting for this sort of update from Microsoft since long..

This is sooooooooooo needed... keep in mind that the "live" connection is the best option to avoid storing additional data in the power bi report, but having no MDX option in the "live" connection implies having to accept very very inefficient queries... I just tested a live connection adding a few dimensions and measures, and the memory of the server where the Cube is placed went sky rocket, without considering that the final query performance is quite bad.
