The number formatting should be in accordance with excel. The options available in excel for number formatting is quite brilliant.
I hope Power BI can somehow integrate custom number formatting in the desktop version.

Thank you.

RE: Number formatting

Sometimes it would be very useful to have a plus-sign in front of a decimal number without the loss of the number Features because now with the Format function it's a text field.

RE: Number formatting

The ability to have different formats for numbers based on their value would be great. For example; [>999950]$0.00,,"M";$0.0,"k" would switch from displaying numbers in thousands to million ( $999.9k or $1.06M ). This would help keep visible digits to a minimum for displaying in visuals.

RE: Number formatting

It is quite frustrating that I have to add new measures to format negative numbers to include brackets i.e. display -1,000 as (1,000). In doing so I lose the ability to 'See Records' so have to add a second table to my display to allow drill down ability to the raw data, which still has the original formatting. I also have to add a further measure to remove all blank combinations which now appear in my reports. A simple custom number format option like in Excel should be a standard, why over complicate things that cause you to lose other functionality?!?

RE: Number formatting

especially the ability to add custom formatting. for example - I like to be able to add "+" and "-" to positive and negative numeric values when showing "change over time" values. easy in excel. in power bi you have to convert numerics to text in a custom calculation. frustrating.

RE: Number formatting

Most of the world knows better than to use the mm/dd/YYYY format, since it is ambiguous compared to dd/mm/YYYY. But the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) also understand the reversed ambiguity and has chosen an even better format as international standard, namely YYYY-mm-dd (or YYYYmmdd). Please follow international standard.

RE: Number formatting

For building dashboards for the corporate finance and accounting community, it would be very helpful to include number formatting that allows the user to (1) replace zeros with dashes, (2) show negative numbers in a matrix table with brackets or parentheses, and (3) allow the user to toggle on conditional formatting to highlight negative values in red.

RE: Number formatting

Allow the user to change the default format for different data types and create custom formats (similar to custom formats in Excel).
