In September 2017 we announced that Power BI Desktop is available through the Windows Store, giving automatic updates: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-at-ignite-2017-announcing-enterprise-ready-capabilities-for-establishing-data-culture-at-scale/
If you're not able to update to Windows 10, vote for this idea so that Power BI Desktop can be made available through Microsoft Update to older versions of Windows.

What about organisations that block the MS Store and update through GPO.

Doesn't look like PBI will be viable for Federal Gov't users unless this can be done through MS Update.

Any place where the desktop end-users don't have admin privileges (most places), they will not be able to download updates from the MS Store. This seems like a no-brainer, unless there are some marketing/sales reasons to not do this.

This needs to be the top-priority for the next monthly update, rather than just kicking this can down the road. Reengineer it to be MS Update compliant.

Microsoft can we make this happen before 2020? MICROSOFT PowerBI should be able to update through Windows update by now....

This is a problem for our company as well. The Microsoft store is locked and it's a huge pain to have to re-download every time.

PowerBI is a standard MSoft product and std. software deployment and configuration manager update process should apply.

Our company also has the windows store locked, and its very time consuming every month to make a case to have our desktop team install it manually. Please make it auto update.

The fact that Auto-Update does not exist through the application is insane. Power BI should be updated through windows update or by pressing an update button inside the application.

our company has locked out the windows store so we need a way to auto update without the store, we are running windows 10.
