Hi, I have used Powerview extensively. Pivot table connected to a Tabular Model is today the best available tool for pivoting. Nothing to beat it. howevere powerview and pivot tables are not integrated to each other, i.e. they do not share the same parameters. The filters I have selected in Powerview shold also filter (optionally) a pivot table also.

Over the last few months, we've made a lot of progress on a new matrix visual that supports cross-highlighting, stepped layouts and drill. Learn more about the new matrix preview here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-matrix-visual/

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

I cannot believe that Power BI has not integrated Power Pivot into its matrix.
All of the current report offerings are no more than eye-candy to me.
I "migrated" to Power Bi as I thought it might be an upgrade to Power Bi.
While the memory management issue seems to be under control the report offerings are of no real interest.
I for one would be glad to put my money where my mouth is to push Power Bi up the development list.
"Printing is only available in Power BI service and not Power BI Desktop" - why...
"Reports can only be printed one page at a time -- you can't print the entire report at once." - why...
My clients have a tough enough time accepting BI as its user paradigm is so different from the rest of the MS Suite.

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

Kindly integrate pivot tables in power bi... because of these few things which are missing in power bi, we are forced to look at other tools like tableau and spotfire. power bi has got a great potential... but at the same time it is not complete...

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

I can see Pivot Tables in the Power BI sample file Titled "Customer Profitability Sample". When I click on the table, it shows "Pivot Table Fields". I can alter the table, update it, click on fields to include or remove from the pivot. Isn't this an integration of Power BI with Pivot tables? The sample can be downloaded from here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-sample-customer-profitability-take-a-tour/

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

There is no solution in Power BI that is near to the capabilities of the Excel Pivot Table to use ragged hierarchies or to be more specific use Parent/Child dimensions from a Analysis Services Multidimensional Model. Some of my SSAS MD models build eons ago, make use of ragged hierarchies and Parent/Child dimensions. Currently customers that have to rely on these hierarchies, types of dimensions to get some of their analytical questions answered are more than hesitant to give Power BI a chance. And we all know Power BI deserves better.

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

The lack of pivot charts alongside pivot tables is a show-stopper for recommending Power BI to our analysts. This kit is designed to be used for information discovery so it should be able to flip and spin data views even better than Excel. I see each month things being added and they are of little use if we aren't using the software because it lacks the basics

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

Yes, we need this too. Why was pivot table removed in access 2013? Why not include it in power bi? It was such a good control...

RE: Integrate Powerbi with Pivot tables

Will, to answer your question: "What is it about Pivot Tables that are useful?" It's the summary of values at various levels of a hierarchy and being able to drill in, dynamically to different levels of that hierarchy. Particularly, ragged hierarchies. Pivot tables handle that view much better than Matrix or table visuals.
