I love the fact that we can make live connections to a SSAS Tabular model in DirectQuery mode as it allows us to share common semantic models on our enterprise data. However, with a live connection we lose very important features such as: renaming fields, adding calculated fields, grouping and binning to name just a few. Ideally, when I make a SSAS live connection these types of functions would remain enabled.

One option might be to allow users to import the SSAS tabular model in live (DirectQuery) mode.

I would also like to be able to create dynamic labels when using SSAS multidimensional

it would also be really great if you could combine live connection with other data sources in the same report. we cant build dashboards combining data from our live connection to our cube and other SQL databases for example

RE: Make SSAS Live Connections/DirectQuery more functional/flexible

adding to what was suggested here: many features are disabled when connecting live to SSAS Tabular model. basically all the AI capabilities are gone (Q&A, insights, analyze) and even the very basic capability of creating a new column...
