It's currently possible to connect to an SAP HANA database from PowerBI Desktop. What we need is a connector from the service to SAP HANA running in the cloud.

SAP HANA connector is available in Power BI Desktop, including Import & DirectQuery connectivity modes. Reports authored using this connector can be published to the Power BI Service and refreshed via the On-premises data gateway.

RE: Connector for SAP HANA in the cloud

Miguel, do you have any input on the previous commentor's reply? What about connecting to HANA in the Cloud? OPDG will be redundant but I'm assuming we will need an additional component to install/configure in order to connect from the PBI service to Cloud HANA.
Can you provide some insight please? There's doesn't appear to be any documentation covering this.

Thanks

RE: Connector for SAP HANA in the cloud

Hi Miguel,

It's ok what you wrote but the Ed's idea is about a SAP HANA that is not on-premise but in the cloud (SAP Cloud Platform, HANA as a service there).

In this case you could use SAP Cloud Connector to reach the HANA cloud service and expose it in your desktop (where you will need de HANA ODBC driver to use it from Power BI).

But... Do we have to use Power BI Gateway to bring the data from the HANA cloud service and then send it to the Power BI Service?

Isn't there any way to connect both cloud services directly?
