I imagine this is going to be included within the ability to edit connections, but I would like the ability to edit an existing query or add a new one from within Power BI. Another option would be to overwrite an existing spreadsheet with one including the new queries, though conflicts might get messy.

Hi Ollie! Thanks for the suggestion. We're already working on improvements to the management of existing connections and data sets in the service. Stay tuned for updates!

RE: Edit or add queries from the web

Need a page with my uploaded Excel models (or other data sources) where I can download, edit, and re-upload them and refresh the data behind them.

Still waiting for this......
Whenever I need to edit an existing report/dashboard, I need to download a copy, edit, then re-publish, breaking links to the previous report.

RE: Edit or add queries from the web

How come this wasn't implemented since Dec 2014?

Looks like this is similar to: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/11036421-edit-queries-option-in-powerbi-com

(which oddly enough has more votes, but nothing from admin...)

RE: Edit or add queries from the web

I reckon Powerbi Online is still light weight. Ideally build everything on powerbi desktop and publish to powerbi online. If there is a single table to play around with, then direct upload to powerbi online, build report/dashboard and publish, for more involved stuff, powerbi desktop seems to be the only option for now. Good to have similar features of power bi desktop on online version as well.

Not sure why this wasn't implemented from the get go. Would love to see this feature added soon.

Any news? Experience is cumbersome without this feature.

RE: Edit or add queries from the web

I'm going to pile on here - I need this as well. Beyond the need for 2-way sync mentioned by another comment here, another issue is when publishing a report to the web.

When this is done, going back to the PBIX to edit the query, then re-importing into the Web version actually creates a new report which needs new embed code and gets a new link - not ideal at all as this now involves making changes to any referencing sites/blogs/posts/etc.

It's sort of a catch 22 - make all changes in the Power BI Desktop or else you lose them if you ever need to edit the query. But doing so creates this downstream pain with Publish to Web and other features.

Bottom line: The desktop version of Power BI shouldn't have any more functionality than the web version.
