In September 2017 we announced that Power BI Desktop is available through the Windows Store, giving automatic updates: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-at-ignite-2017-announcing-enterprise-ready-capabilities-for-establishing-data-culture-at-scale/
If you're not able to update to Windows 10, vote for this idea so that Power BI Desktop can be made available through Microsoft Update to older versions of Windows.

Please add windows update support for those of us who use SCCM to manage applications and updates.

Would greatly help for environments where the Windows Store isn't authorized/used.

Make it easier to share Dashboard in a safe way, with people outside the organization.

Most corporate customers do not allow windows store. Also many are still on windows 7. either make updates available via standard windows patch, or make power bi just auto update itself with user confirmation. Files aren't easily backwards compatible due to visuals, so users are literally having to manuallyupdate each time they open a file which is really hurting the adoption.

A massive number of your paying customers are still running enterprise wide deployments of Windows 7. The solution for automatic updates to Power BI for only Windows 10 is short-sighted and solves nothing for some very large companies. Please, Microsoft, pay attention to your customers and either provide these updates or explain why you cannot. Don't just close an idea because you provided a workaround.
