The team will be investing in the integration of the dashboards and leverage the dashboard platform of Power BI.com as the solution for this scenario

RE: Support dashboards in Power BI Report Server

Its good to have Reports on-Premsis using Power BI Report Server. It would be a great idea if we could have the functaionality of Creating Dashboards as well. I am not talking about the similar functionality as we have on PBI Service. It would be great if we only have PIN to a Dashboard feature; it will help in Blending and Summerizing the Analytics. Just like SSRS Reports, PBI Reports and KPI's there would be a new type called "DASHBOARDS". They could be created from Visuals from PBI or SSRS Reports; On clicking, you will navigate to specific reports.

Classic Microsoft, try and sell a cloud service by limiting the onsite capability. Just annoys us more than anything.

Why you even bother is beyond me...

RE: Support dashboards in Power BI Report Server

Have to admit , I agree with another user . We already pay for software assurance, Office 365..and on and on. But then you try stick the user more costs like the pro license scheme is just stupid. Better off from a sell point to include local use. If the company needs or wants the external web service than they can make that choice rather than you trying to force it upon us.

We all hate the strong arm technique of limiting a product on purpose.

I can actually use a free version of Tableau that does dashboards and I can post it to a free website, instant cloud.

You guys really need to pay attention to the market.

Dashboard supports real time charts (ASA or REST API). Would be nice to have this for PBI on prem (without needing to use some browser add on to refresh entire page). The main scenario is to show report on a TV.

RE: Support dashboards in Power BI Report Server

Dashboards are key for many organizations that I work with and to only support deploying Power BI reports to Power BI Report Server leaves the on-premises solution lacking. The on-premises option should be very close to feature parity with the cloud option to enable customers to have choice and truly move to the cloud on their terms. Everyone understands that new functionality will come to the cloud option first but the on-premises option needs to be a focus to bring it up to speed.

When will we have other data sources available for on premise solution (Desktop Optimized ) Can't publish everything on cloud.

Enabling dashboards and personal workspace would be the feather in the cap for the on premise solution and would help us get all our stakeholders onto this platform. Believe this could go a long way in getting the community a seamless experience when when we decide to move to the cloud.

RE: Support dashboards in Power BI Report Server

Power BI report server without dashboards is an incomplete implementation, reports allow only one data set to be used for example. To get a fully workable solution that links multiple data sets into one visible representation which is part of the power of power BI then this feature is a must. Without it is not such a great product, and may force us down another route when I would much rather stick with the Microsoft stack. Somewhat disappointed it wasn't implemented from day one. Remember not all companies will allow cloud implementation. With this implemented it make it an easy choice for all out reporting needs to stay with MS and not have to go another route.

RE: Support dashboards in Power BI Report Server

Many of my customers are still biased when it comes to cloud and publishing (sensitive) content there (even with the availability of eg. German Azure). Therefore: the more features of PowerBI.com are available on-premises the higher the adoption rate of my customers towards Power BI will be.

RE: Support dashboards in Power BI Report Server

To be honest, my main reason is so that I can publish dashboards internally, without have to buy everyone a Pro license.

We have a number of legacy SSRS reports and "dashboards", which could benefit immensely from Power BI, but the Pro requirement for consuming content, via a Gateway, is a killer. At least with Power BI RS we'll be able to look at building and publishing reports, but it's the dashboards that tie it all together and provide any form of drill-down.

The cost of Pro licences is the number one sticking point for adoption here. We already have an E3 license, we can't justify paying more, just to get Power BI.
