There is currently no customisation for sorting of matrices. Please copy existing Excel functionality to sort by row name or by value fields ascending or descending.

I also need control over the sort. When I bring an Excel file (with rows sorted the way I want them) into Power BI, it forces a different sort, which required me to begin the rows with "A.", "B.", "C.", etc. so that the rows were sorted in Power BI the same way they were in Excel.

If you just use values in a matrix, you can sort them. However, once you add column headers (e.g., grade values like 1, 2, 3, etc.) you lose the ability to sort the value columns. We need to be able to do that!

There are other registered ideas that are almost the same as this one. This uncontrolled idea submitting option is not efficient. I think this is a really important feature but because of the inefficient registration does not get the votes it deserves (now its fragmented).
In my opinion PBI should mimic Excel pivot tables as closely as possible.

I think that Microsoft must spend more time on these basic, fundamentals of reporting / dashboarding. I worry that too often they spend more time chasing cool, "glitzy" functionality, at the expense of the core functionality that other products have

It is possible to sort by columns,
but there seems to be no existing way to sort by values :-(

I'd like to be able to define how rows are sorted. From what I can tell it's AtoZ or ZtoA, but I need to be able to define the sort order.
For example, if I'm using a matrix and have text row values, the logical order in which they should be displayed doesn't necessarily match alphabetic order.

You can sort the data in theMatrix by clicking on the column title/name. There is no visible option but it is there.
