The matrix visualization used to be able to display multiple columns side-by-side without using drill-through (for example, a product list that shows the product category just once in the first column, all of the category's products once in the next column, and then all of the colors for each product in a third column). We use this format all the time in SSRS and it looks much cleaner than a table which duplicates all of the values on every row.

I need the ability to have multiple rows in a Matrix without those additional rows becoming drilldowns. Due to this limitation I've had to pivot tables. This then becomes a manual process where I would need to open the Power BI report every month in order to add the latest month (which are my columns) to a table. It's hard to convince a company trying to go enterprise with Power BI that SSRS is not a better option (which is where this report currently lives and is in the format requested without any monthly manual intervention).
