I want to be able to edit server & database setup in the Enterprise Gateway. Currently, I can add new ones, but not edit ones already setup.

I modified the post to only show "Edit" . You can delete data source by clicking on "..." next to the Data source instance

RE: Edit data sources in Enterprise Gateway

Yeap, I have clients who will be moving their database server and I want to just change the connection in the gateway

I don't understand why this wouldn't be a feature in the first place. Databases are portable and renamable. Just a simple hardware churn could cause days or weeks of work to update reports to use a different data source entry for the same data. This needs to be fixed ASAP and should not have been locked down in the first place.

Totally agree! with so many data sources to manage between different Gateways, Would make it much simpler.

RE: Edit data sources in Enterprise Gateway

I cannot believe that this is not just a normal everyday feature in PBI online .. How could they possibly have shipped the product without this capability and be so coy as to not talk about this fact hoping that no one will notice.. Sad ..

To say "Just use PBID" is just not an acceptable answer.. Explaining PBID to users and especially to IT is just not a pleasant experience and frankly I believe hurts the success of PBI.

If this is political (as I expect it is) then I suggest that MS grow up and realize that dumbing down PBI in order to promote PBID is just downright childish.

Get us this feature and get it right away .. Or you're gonna hear a lot more about this from people like me in much more places.

I just cannot imagine how many people have gone and created PBI solutions of complexity and effort only to find that if they want to add or change ANY data sources in a single Dataset they have no option but to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN FROM SCRATCH !

How can you guys look yourselves in the mirror for this?

RE: Edit data sources in Enterprise Gateway

YES! Totally agree. Just today, I had to create a new data source, because the database changed. The hard part was replacing all the UPN mappings...manually, since gateway level mapping doesn't exist yet.

RE: Edit data sources in Enterprise Gateway

Agree. This is a must-have.
It doesn't make sense to need to delete + create a new data source.

There feature will definitively simplify administrator's life. It is a real pain when you want to rename a data source and to achieve that you need to re-create it. Totally agree!

RE: Edit data sources in Enterprise Gateway

I Support this idea. Recreating a datasource, just to change the name of the data source or the name of the referenced Database is not a desirable.
