Sharepoint does not know how to handle .pbix files. Should be able to check out / open.

RE: Sharepoint file handling .pbix

The inability of SPO to interact with .pbix's takes my breath away. I can't believe that this is the case. I'm in shock right now. How on earth are we supposed to both be able to update reports from Power BI Desktop to Power BI Service *and* keep the report in the cloud? We have three people who need access to the .pbix and SPO is the only environment we keep docs in. Are we really back to downloading a file, saving it locally, deleting the file in SPO, then reuploading the file, then creating a *new* report in Power BI Service? How am I supposed to go back to the execs and tell them this when I barely convinced to get on board with Power BI in the first place? They're looking for any excuse to not go with Power BI and are not convinced of SPO either. I migrated everything from Salesforce a few months ago and no one is happy. This kind of thoughtlessness is a form of professional cruelty from Microsoft.

Company moving to sharepoint as common file sharing medium. Not being able to share pbix via sharepoint is a real pain.

RE: Sharepoint file handling .pbix

Would be very helpful as we use SharePoint for central data storage of all our pbix files accessiable to our report architects (who collaborative work on same Reports using checkIn / checkout). P.S.: Users accesing only via PBI Service / Premium.

RE: Sharepoint file handling .pbix

It's more that Power BI doesn't allow me to open a pbix file stored in or save a file to SharePoint. I have to work with local copies which I try to avoid.

RE: Sharepoint file handling .pbix

We would like to take advantage of the approval feature of SharePoint document libraries. We are using check in/out and versioning without issue. We also use OneDrive sync to keep the SharePoint library sync'd locally on our dev machines. When we tried to turn on the approval function, it put our sync'd files in read-only mode. This all but makes the approval feature obsolete since it would drive development down to local files. Fixing this would be a great improvement!

RE: Sharepoint file handling .pbix

Even with right click you cannot choose to open in PowerBI desktop.
Excel binary files are opende direct in excel from the desktop.
What is the difference ?
