The PowerBI Designer is missing integration with the Data Catalog and there is no online search functionality. The data catalog is a core component of the reporting solution so let me use it with the Power BI Designer

MICROSOFT ... Wake UP!!!

We are all trying to tell you that this needs to be changed immediately!! It is planned as of FEB 2015!! You have already promised all users with Pro licenses this feature like it is readily available. What gives!!!

RE: Data Catalog integration in PowerBI Designer

I'd like to have just one .pbix to shape the datamodel, then to publish this en power bi service as a content pack. After to connect to this content pack from Power BI Desktop to créate Report.

So, when I need to modify or improve de datamodel, I`d work only in the datamodel pbix once.

Planned as if 2/17/15... yet it is touted as one of the features when you sign up for Power BI Pro. Feel like I got a burger with no bun :(

So odd that this is in Power Query but not Power BI Desktop. Doesn't matter. I can't login to the Power Query one anyway :(

Self-service BI isn't just about giving users access to tooling; they need access to data. If data remains silo'd, the whole idea of self-service BI will just wither on the vine.

Funny, I was looking for this because I was triggered by the pricing page. It is mentioned as being part of the Pro version, but it is not there yet.

You need to think broader in your solutioning, most organisations have large investments in data catalogue products not Microsoft enabling your solution to integrate with the key players as a minimum in this space is more a customer value delivery. (ie IBM Glossary etc)

RE: Data Catalog integration in PowerBI Designer

All of these great tools are redundant to us as a user orientated reporting solution until the Data Catalogue is also available in Power BI.

We can't see the the point of all this effort (albeit in the right direction) if the fundamental relationship between the apps isn't there.

Moreover, why is the Power Query tab in Excel labelled 'Power BI' if you can't actually share the data sources in the data catalogue with the Power BI apps?

RE: Data Catalog integration in PowerBI Designer

Great to see this is planned. Sharing Functions and queries will save time and drive consistency. Best if it is available in both Excel and Power BI Desktop tools. Keep up the good work.
