The idea would be that Custom Visuals can be downloaded to a local desktop "library". Then, each time you launch Power BI, all Custom Visuals would be available along with the Default Visuals. Having to import the Custom Visual each time you create a new .PBIX file is a pain!

Hi with the ability to personalize your visualization pane you can now pin any visuals from the marketplace to your viz pane and will show up side by side with the default visuals across all the reports when you create a new content or edit existing one. you need to be logged in. please see short video and description here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-june-2019-feature-summary/#personalizedVizPane the feature is still in preview and you should enable it in the desktop. Thanks for submitting your idea!

I would have thought this would be a simple idea from MS from the start.
When I import an addin in excel for example, the addin is always available in subsequent instances, having to reimport/download previous visuals is madness gone on rampage.

Agree! It's a pain to keep importing the same visual every time I create a new report.

Please also keep your enterprise customers in mind. There might be a certain set of custom visuals one would like to provide with the app (distributed via App-V) so that all corporate users have the same set of custom visuals available (yes being able to influence this via an AD Group policy would be a dream ;-))

Some sort of 'Custom Visual Manager' in desktop would be a great idea.
Ideally it would be linked to the online database of custom visuals and allow you to download visuals directly to your pbix, instead of the current method.
If you only want the visual in that pbix then that's all you need to do, but if you want it in all then you could have the option to 'subscribe' to the visuals you want and they would be available in all pbix you open.
Making sure you always had the latest version of the custom vis would also be nice.

This would make the flexibility of custom visuals a lot more accessible.

And as a part of this some kind of update framework.

'Until this may be available:
- Create new File
- Import your custom visuals
- Save file as PowerBI Template
- Create new files from Template and your visuals will be included

Same is true for any data connections you have in the template. Personally, I have several templates (one per relevant data source) with my custom visuals in there.
