It is currently possible for filters (or even slicers) to be preset when publishing to PowerBI.com. From a threat on the recent PBI AMA it was stated that Power BI will be able to be embedded in SharePoint. When that happens, it would be great to be able to preset filters for each embedded dashboard/report rather than needing to set it in the Power BI pbix file first. This way it would allow multiple instances of the dashboard/report to be embedded and filters set for the specific SharePoint embed locations. The use case for this could be a sales situation where there are multiple sales regions all looking at the same report. It would be nice to have the report embedded in each of their team sites and pre-filtered to their region.

RE: When Power BI is embedded into SharePoint, allow filters to be preset

We've a report we'd like to embed on 43 site pages with a filter to that site's community. Because there's no ability to do so, we need to recreate the report 43 times and we know we're likely to have many requests for improvements to that report; which we'll then have to reproduce 43 times.

As there's no way to filter to a URL in the sharepoint embed, or create a template in Power BI that will force updates to all reports in the file (like Dreamweaver does on a set of webpages for instance) leadership are investigating alternative options for providing these reports, and opinion on Power BI is that it's great for some things, but fails at the final hurdle.

this is desperately needed, should be standard functionality. instead its an impediment with using the service and its integration. 2 years and no progress on this.

I agree with other comments. We have many reports we would like to embed in SharePoint where report context on page is intended for a single audience. The only alternative option right now would be to create a pre-filtered report for each audience but O&M overhead with such an approach is not feasible.

This would be really awesome, you can currently link to a report with filter context, e.g. ?filter=... the Sharpoint web part accepts the url if you add &filter=... to the end of it but currently has no effect. Would be great if we could filter the embedded apps the same way as you link to them with filter context.

This, or some other capability that achieves the same end, is a very important enhancement to consider. Without this, embedding a report in a SharePoint page means creating a bespoke report for each page whereas if we had the ability to simply pass a filter in the embed URL, we could reuse an existing common report.

It is VERY important to be able to share and publish our reports directly to ON PREMISES Sharepoint or Sharepoint Services, which comes free with IIS.

Most companies still have their Intranet configure on premises, on internal servers, so its much more important a feature that will allow us to publish to a local sharepoint server than a online sharepoint service.

Personal dashboards in Sharepoint/CRM based on user identity.
Common report/dashboard based on context of embedded report/dashboard.
...
Many nice usecases for such ability.

Also allowing on-prem sources to be embedded in CRM/Sharepoint would be good. As per now, even though users have pro licenses, the on-prem sources needs to be accessed through the portal or PowerBI app for mobile devices.

This would be a great addition. I was asked a couple of days ago by my Chief Exec if this kind of thing was possible, so would be good to be able to say 'not yet but soon'
