Please introduce a global setting to Prevent Teams from creating PowerBi App Workspace automatically when creating a new Team. As the new Workspaces are detached from Teams/Groups this should be a setting to prevent the App Workspaces beeing clotted with empty Workspaces from all our Teams.

Absolutely needs fixed. Also, the option "Leave Workspace" doesn't just remove the Workspace from PowerBI, it chucks you out of the actual Team or Group, which is not clear when you choose this option in PowerBI

RE: Disable or prevent Teams from autocreating App Workspace

Please note, the same thing happens with Outlook groups - every outlook group automatically creates a Workspace. This makes everything incredibly messy, and trying to roll out PBI to non tech users much harder. You want users to see only the workspaces which are actually PBI workspaces!

About workaround mentioned Deletion of workspace from Power BI portal deletes the team from Teams as well, right?

RE: Disable or prevent Teams from autocreating App Workspace

Since this is definitely an issue with any governance, as noted by many below, for using Power BI especially in an enterprise environment, we are using a workaround through an 'alerts' with O365 to notify when new teams are created, followed by validating and deleting any "unauthorized" work-spaces using the Power BI Admin portal.

Not pretty but necessary, looking into scripting it out based on the same 'alerts' as well.

This should be done ASAP, very frustrating and stupid on the team and person who designed it and let it roll out.

Would be great if only workspace created in powerbi are a available restricting all groups created outside of Powerbi remit

RE: Disable or prevent Teams from autocreating App Workspace

Agree, this is a horrible idea. Every team doesn't need a workspace that will never be used and just confuses and clutters up PBI.

I deleted what I thought was an old empty workspace and it deleted the files in Teams, without any warning.

This came as quite a surprise when we saw our first team appeared as a workspace on Power BI ! Very much needed feature to disable or prevent automatic creation of workspaces in Power BI

RE: Disable or prevent Teams from autocreating App Workspace

I have tested this with "Create workspaces (new workspace experience) enabled for a subset of the organisation" such that only a specified security group(s) can create app workspaces.

However the Teams integration with Power BI bypasses this rule and creates V1 App Workspaces anyway.
