The current version of Power BI visualsation framework does not support access to the previous levels in a drill-down. I.e. you only get access to the current level when rendering. That makes it very hard to develop visualizations such as pivot tables or breakdown trees.

This would let custom viz developers add thing like pivot tables and Breakdown Trees :)

[This idea was created as an offshoot of https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/15844186-pivot-tables-and-breakdown-trees. Fredrik had initially asked for updates to the Custom Viz API, but many votes and comments were cast assuming the idea was just asking for the Power BI team to build Pivot Tables or Breakdown trees!]

Hi, Drill-down for custom visuals is now supported in the framework, so any developer can update their custom visual code to add drill-down support (where applicable). '@Lukasz Why not this was a part of Power BI when it was introduce in market must have feature in Power BI.

The only reason power BI is able to gain such a big BI market is because of the customs visuals one such visual is frank's breakdown tree so our Dashboard get an dependency visuals not only breakdown tree however to make more complex customs visuals. So its important to have this "Custom Viz access to the previous levels in a drill-down" Enable soon!

Dear Santa, this is all i want for Christmas! This would be a huge deal for us to be able to publish a pivoted rolled up financial statement and let our users drill in and out to see hidden detail behind each line item... oh i lied.. i also want a visual that lets me string Christmas lights around the boarder of my dashboards ;). Keep up the great work!!! You can do it!

'@pedro totally agrees with you; Its one of the most important feature of Power to Build is own customs visuals.. If this is taken way then this may leads no options for developer to Build more complex customs visuals.. Must enable feature in API if custom visuals in power BI Build..

No pain, no gain :) Fact is that this is a fundamental gap in functionality that would enable 'proper' Power BI visuals.
