Consolidate Duplicate Datasources

Currently, a new data source is created within the Power BI service for every new Power BI report published through Power BI Desktop. A new data source is created even when the same data source from an existing report has already been created within the Power BI service.

This is most evident when you have created multiple Power BI reports from the same Enterprise Gateway (SSAS Tabular in my example) data source. We could have 5 different reports analysing data from the same model, which ends up being 5 duplicated data sources. This can end up in a mess when you have additional data sources in the same workspace.

Is there a way, or can there be a way developed, where reports using the same data source is not duplicated?

RE: Consolidate Duplicate Datasources

We have dozens of reports that have this issue and it is limiting the viability as we try to grow our platform (even as a relatively small company). I am surprised that the Power BI service has such a large unaddressed scaling issue.

We need a way/option to consolidate data sources that are the same.

RE: Consolidate Duplicate Datasources

In my case I have multiple reports that are all being shared with the same end user audience via the automated gateway refresh process and the Power BI cloud. I have created a star schema that allows for multiple report creation. I created multiple report tabs in a single report set. Many different reports with many different filter and data ordering options. This allows you to have multiple reports pointing to a single data set. When the users open the report they can pick the tabs that have specific interest to them. It might be MUCH more complicated if you try to use row level security in a mixed report set.

Did you know what the issue was or got it solved?
I'm having the same problem at this moment
