Creating non-static summary tables

I've encountered a problem with seemingly no workaround. I want to sum a calculated measure by group. However, the problem is that it doesn't seem possible to have a sum over a measure. I can manage to calculate exactly what I want by creating a summary table (using the SELECTCOLUMNS statement). However, the problem is that the resulting table cannot be joined back to the table it is created from, and is static, in that drill down filters on the original table does not filter through to the summary table. A solution to the problem would be if it is possible to create a summary table that isn't static. Such a table should dynamically tie back to the table it was created from (with related filters).

RE: Creating non-static summary tables

The problem was presented practically in a forum over here:

(No solution was provided by anyone).
