Instead of refreshing a dataset based on a schedule, I would like to trigger running a refresh on demand. A REST API that I could use to get the history of refreshes, current status of refresh, and start a refresh would be helpful.

RE: Trigger refreshes for datasets using API
I honestly can't believe some kind of conditional refresh doesn't already exist. Who has a data source with a guaranteed "ready" time every day? I don't know anyone who does. Refreshes should be conditional based on when the data is ready, not based on an arbitrary fixed time. Allowing a trigger of a refresh via the API would solve this problem.

Is there another item like this that is getting MS attention. To me this is a huge miss from enterprise perspective.

This would help immensely as we can then trigger a dashboard refresh once all the SQL Server Agent jobs have finished running.

This feature will be a great addition and will help generating real-time reports on data. scheduled refresh (8 times a day) does not give an insight of Data through out the day in real time. Will be a lot more helpful if refreshes can be made via API calls
RE: Trigger refreshes for datasets using API
Would be an excellent feature addition, we end up updating much later than we could because of the inability to link our ETL to the refresh.

This feature is a must, as it is important in few of the cases to sequentialize your ETL runs and the power bi dataset refreshment
