In May 2017 Power BI Desktop started supporting creation of DAX measures when working in live connect mode to an external SSAS model: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/
Vote on this idea if you want support for calculated measures against multidimensional models too.

It has to be done as it will benefit both, Microsoft as a way to diffuse more largely the tool as it's a break for a lot of companies, and us, the customers, for who this is a must to have and move PowerBi from a good choice to the best choice

This would be so amazingly useful. Right now our analyst team is hamstrung by this exact issue. Right now we are forced into one of two work-arounds. 1. We either have to export all data out of the cube, isolating ourselves to a fixed point in time for data, and then do analysis enabled by DAX... and do this export every time we need to update transactional data. The second option is that we have to wait on the development team to update the cubes when we need ANY kind of new calculation.
Being able to live connect and use the capabilities of DAX to build analysis - I can't even begin to tell you how great that would be.

Please, I want to start using Power BI but this is clearly a no-go without this functionality.

I can't believe this has not even been planned by Microsoft...can you please give some hope to the customers who rely heavily on Multi-Dimensional models?

We have an opportunity to migrate a client over to the Microsoft stack with SSRS and PowerBI but without support of Multidimensional for self-service we cannot propose this as a viable solution. Is there a timeline as to when this feature will be made available or Is it a strategic decision from Microsoft to get all clients over to tabular?

Please add this ASAP. Power BI has many strengths, but without calculated measures with MDX cubes, clients turn to other tools than Power BI.
