It would be great if there was an option to tranfer ownership of created reports and dashboards. This way, work would not have to be duplicated if the original creator was to leave the company/change roles/etc.

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

Is there any update on this? Logging in as a terminated user is not something we can do. Transferring ownership or at least granting permissions is a requirement for us. It would be great if we could have an update on progress.

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

Madness that users are faced with recreating content when someone leaves. Big black mark against Power BI.

This is definitely needed. There is no reason an administrator should not be able to manage all aspects of PowerBI!

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

This is needed. I created a dashboard and published it. Now that it's established, I would give it to my technical team lead and let him maintain it - but I can't.

As the owner, I can give him read/share access - I should be able to give him write access as well.

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

This is a serious problem when somebody leaves the company. The dashboards are linked to their desktop. They can transfer the PBI file but what if you have HUNDREDS of users?

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

It's a little surprising to be confronted with a situation, come looking for the answer to be told "create content in app workspaces as opposed to personal workspaces." It's too late. The creator of the reports didn't read that advice.

I'm also surprised that as an Office 365 admin I can't reassign ownership of a dataset or report. Essentially, when so-and-so goes under the bus, I should be able to give that report to their replacement and say "carry on". How long has this suggestion been posted?

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

Jordan makes an excellent point about Workspaces instead of Share Dashboard.
However, for all those shared things out there from users who have now moved to pastures new, this remains a much needed 'admin feature'.

RE: Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

I voted for this feature but want to chime in to say that the scalable, enterprise-level best practice for creating anything that's shared to a broad audience is to use a workspace and distribute the content via an app or add users to the workspace and secure those users as read only. Doing so means you can have multiple people that are allowed to edit/publish content and if someone where to leave the company another person could easily take over management of the pbix files, dashboards, etc.

I am a Power BI partner and I always tell my customers to use Share Dashboard/Share Report sparingly for the reasons mentioned in the comments. I know its easier to just hit share dashboard and add people but it's not scalable and there are many other benefits of using workspaces (OneDrive library, team site, etc.) on top of supporting dashboards/reports if someone leaves the company/org.
