With the removal of the connection to SQL Server Standard License (worked with the first preview) the potentials to a lot of Power BI users is out.
The entire SME business is left out to use this feature although you can still use the connection through Excel and Pivot.
Ideal would be to be moved this license restriction to Power BI Pro account instead of the free version.

Thank you for your suggestion. As you may have seen, with SQL Server 2016 SSAS now enables DAX queries for multi-dimensional models even in standard edition. Closing as the team has completed this work!

I second Giampaolo's question. Although it is only a few weeks away for RTM (at which point I can try this out myself), it would be great to get this confirmed now:
Will Power BI be able to connect, over Enterprise Gateway, to MDM and Tabular running on SQL Server 2016 Std edition?
RE: Connect Multidimensional to SQL Server Standard License
Considering that SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition allow the possibility to create SSAS Tabular models, can you confirm that PBI gateways will be able to connect both on MDM and Tabular 2016 SE databases?
RE: Connect Multidimensional to SQL Server Standard License
Please unlock the SSAS (multidimenstional) power for SQL server standard! All my custumers have the standard edition!

The reason why Microsoft is only allowing the connector to work with an Enterprise license is about revenue - Microsoft has never cared about customers. It is all about how much mony they can squise out of their customers. I think it is a bad rute they have taken here, at least on the long run, because for many small and medium sized businesses the Enterprice Edition is not an option it is simply too expensive. I am sure they have done a lot of calculations and made the conclusion, that they earn more money this way. This wiil not change before more db people turn away from MSsql to PostGreSQL or some other good alternative. One thing is as sure as the sun goes down every day -Microsoft does not change their atitude to their customer before they are forced to that mean too many customers are leaving them.
RE: Connect Multidimensional to SQL Server Standard License
Please provide ability for Live Connection to SSAS MD SQL server standard. As business and power users, we don't always have control of the versions of the solution provided by IT Infrastructure. This really limits functionality and availability to a large section of the business
