When modifying the query using the advanced editor, the dataflow is refreshed. Then, in order to save the changes, the dataflow validates that it can be refreshed AGAIN.

PowerQuery should be smart enough to notice I made no changes after it loaded / validated the last time.

RE: dataflow powerquery validation

Agree, it would improve development time if it was possible to alter one of the entities or add a new entity in the dataflow, without having to refresh the entire flow afterwards. This should both speed up delvelopment time and reduce the load on the BI servers.

RE: dataflow powerquery validation

Simple: If I haven't changed the definition of the entity, don't re-validate that entity when updating other entities in the model. Current state, if I have a dataflow with multiple entities (they almost always do) each entity must be refreshed numerous times simply to alter/create any other entity. This is wasteful and time consuming behavior.

Additionally - provide a UI option to selectively, and completely, bypass validation (per entity.) It would increase the efficiency of this feature enormously.
