Right now, If I use PowerBI desktop to create a dataset, report and dashboard. I am not able to share it with a standard user. This effectively means that we have to either licence everyone as a pro (very expensive for 4k people), or not use the pro features at all (which isn't what we want).

Pro users should be able to build and schedule the PowerBI, and then be able to share with any company user using AD security groups.
Without these options the tool may not be a viable option...

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

I really hope someone from MS takes this thread seriously. As with many other in this conversation, we are poised to adopt Power BI as our corporate BI platform, but the requirement for Pro for everyone who needs to just view dashboards is going to drive us into the arms of the competition. Come on Microsoft! You finally have a killer product, a ground swell of support, and you are going to cripple adoption with a poorly conceived licensing model!

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

We have come up against the exact issue of being able to share dashboards with users who have to download the Pro version to just view them - the majority of our users will never develop any dashboarding so it seems an unnecessary step. This is a fundamental flaw with an otherwise great product and is causing us to consider other BI solutions. Microsoft - please address this asap because I'm sure this issue will derail the great work so far.

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

Were looking at a new tool and have been using PowerBI to just find out every user needs a Pro licence to view the reports. There is literally 3/4 of us would be creating reports and another 20 or so who would simply view it for the information and nothing more. The company will not pay for everyone to have a licence. Clearly Microsoft earn too much money to care about these big losses of sales.

Pro license requirement for every user limits Power BI so sadly. It's basically a really fancy presentation tool now, for use during in-person meetings.

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

Have to agree with all of these comments below. Power BI is a great tool that is an excellent solution for many our clients but the Pro LIcense requirement to view a dashboard is overkill. This oversight means there is effectively a 0% of a client taking this up as a Viz solution. Very dissapointing!

Extremely disappointing that this GREAT idea got declined. Our organization would love to use PowerBI as our core BI tool, but the lack of ability to share the data with non-pro users is a deal-breaker.

Agreed, we are evaluating this currently for our organization right now and this may be a dealbreaker.

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

Why don't making a symbolic price for users who just need to see the information's that we made in PBIPro .. As one of biggest company in the world with just 32 600 employees and so many clients, we need to decide between TABLEAU and PBI, so if we make calculations, with PBIPRO licence for every of our agents, and other users, Tableau is our decision, even if we prefer PBI. We hope that Microsoft will take in consideration that, because they will loose so many potential clients, from big company as we are, and we, we will choose their direct concurrent.

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

Couldn't agree more here. I work for a multinational, high employee footprint business, and Power BI ticks all boxes...except requiring every reader of a dashboard to be pro...overkill, unnecessary, plus it makes this fantastic tool more difficult to justify to people aligned to its rivals.

Please do the right thing and fix this ASAP, Power BI is riding on the crest of a wave at the moment but this oversight must kill potential market share.

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

This is a potential deal-breaker. Requiring Pro licenses for all viewers of a dashboard rather than just the creator(s) is overkill. I signed-up for the free 60-day trial and there doesn't seem to be any way to revert to a standard license. Extremely frustrating!
