Today it is possible only to have a static data model or direct query. Would really like to have the mainstream refreshable data model available within the embedded offering. Would like to be able to control the refresh via API.

As of June 2017, The Power BI service and Power BI Embedded came together to offer a single API for embedding your dashboards and reports. This means you now have one API surface, a consistent set of capabilities and access to the latest Power BI features – such as dashboards, gateways and app workspaces – when embedding your content. You can read more about it here- https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-developer-embedding/ For those who work with the Power BI Embedded Workspace Collection solution, we built a migration tool for easier data transition. See more info here- https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-developer-migrate-tool/

We need this as many of our reports are backed by OData feeds.

Absolutely critical.

The workaround for this is really not a workaround. We need this ASAP. +1000

This is a critical feature to make Power BI Embedded work for our scenarios. Any ETA on this yet?

It's a must have feature for Power BI embedded.

Would it be possible to get around this (until a better solution is available) by doing a new import of an updated .pbix file to the REST API for imports (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt243840.aspx)?
The nameConflict parameter let's us overwrite existing datasets, but would that also update any embedded reports using that dataset?

Can anyone on the team give an idea of when this will be incorporated?

Also, once such scheduled refreshes are supported...I would like to use the UI in the Azure Portal to schedule refreshes, in addition to being able to control the refresh with via API. Similar to how I can schedule refreshes in the Power BI Service.

And as prerequisites to that...

1. I would like to be able to use the UI in the Azure Portal to create/edit/delete Workspaces (and give them friendly names), just like I can do with the Workspace Collections that contain them.

2. Then, I would like to use the UI in the Azure Portal to import/delete/manage the PBIX files (within the workspaces) that are consumed by Power BI Embedded.

Is there an ETA on this? We have clients that will go with other solutions if we cannot make this work on a scheduled refresh.
