Export a report directly in Excel (not only via csv file)
Administrator on 16 Jun 2017 23:49:13
Exporting to Excel from Power BI is supported. You have two options for exporting your data to Excel: * Once you publish to the Power BI service, you can export your data to Excel by clicking on the ... button for any visual. See more info here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-export-data/ * You can use the Analyze in Excel feature to connect directly to your model in Excel: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-analyze-in-excel/

RE: export excel
Kim - Having the CSV export is nice, but it means a huge amount of re-work for users to re-format the data back into a report layout. Can we please re-open this request to export the entire visual as-is (formatting, selected slicers, etc.) into Excel?
Alternatively, anyone who agrees please up-vote this request which asks for the same:

RE: export excel
Kim, i think the ability to export to Excel from Power BI Desktop is really important. There is no reason for us to publish it online and export from there. You know what we are trying to mention about.
RE: export excel
For more export limit and to be able to export directly to Excel from PBI Embedded, please vote on the idea:

RE: export excel
We need to be able to export from the desktop and everything should be exportable.
RE: export excel
agree with the comments - exporting to xlsx from the desktop and in the same format is a must have
RE: export excel
That is not what everyone was asking for. Why can you only export to csv form desktop, but have to publish first to export to excel??? Makes no sense
RE: export excel
I agree with the latest comments. Can you reopen? We would like a way to export to excel in the exact format you see on the screen, with totals included, etc.
RE: export excel
Hello Kim, I agree with Danny, that's why this idea was submitted. The functionality you provide is helpful for some use cases but there are many where it falls short of what other BI tools are providing - an option to export a data grid with the applied filters and in a format that doesn't require rework. Many use cases call for passing data in Excel to others for their consumption or aggregation.
RE: export excel
Hi Kim, sorry but the solution is not sufficient...for example, the applied filters should persist and should be reflected somewhere in the result set for consistency. Also, if an object has fold/unfold, that functionality should persist (it's basic excel functionality already).
RE: export excel
Kim, I've asked our Microsoft representative to let me know if I need to submit a new idea or if this status can be changed. Not having a feature that every decent data grid tool on the market provides gives validity to keeping this idea open. You have 'export excel' - you don't have "Export the data you have filtered and formatted to Excel without rework". Please reopen this idea for review.
