I have a large set of options from which I would like to pick some specific ones and use them in a slicer to filter my data.
Currently, this is not possible while it is an implemented feature for other chart types.
I'm currently using a 100% stacked column chart as a workaround.

I'm happy to say this is now complete! In the June 2019 release of Power BI Desktop you'll see you can set visual level filters on slicers. There's one known issue where applying a measure filter to a slicer in range mode causes the visual to show an error. We'll release a fix in an interim update before the July release. Thanks for your patience and your votes, everyone!

I'm in the same situation as Seth. That's really unexpected issue.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Hello Rachel,
As this isn't really a bug or an (unexpected) issue I am moving this to the suggestions for the team (re)implement this functionality.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

You used to be able to filter a slicer by changing it into a table, filtering it, then changing it back into a slicer. Now you can't do that. That was really handy, I used it all the time. Any substitute?

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

I also have the same requirement. I have a table with countries, which I would like to show only countries where EU MEMBERSHIP equals YES. I have a good reason to have a slicer to contain only specific items.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

If this implies an advanced filtering option in the slicers next to the eraser icon then yes, that makes perfect sense. I have a large number of values in the filter and I would like to reduce to a couple of values through filtering.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Ability to filter a slicer with many values. For example, if you insert the product dimension as a slicer and you have hundreds of different products, it would be nice to be able to show only the 10 most relevant products or to show only products from a specific product category. In general, slicers should behave much the same way as visuals: you should be able to sort the slicer by a specific measure and to filter the slicer with a specific variable.
