Cognos also supports plenty of reports. It would be great if we could export the Cognos data to this dashboard.

Great suggestion. Anyone else using Cognos and need to bring their reports into Power BI? If you are, please add your vote!

RE: Cognos

It would be nice to replace Cognos Reports with Power BI, if somehow we could generated formatted excels as an option so users (BI consumers only, not power users) could download a standardized report, not just raw plain data as we have today.

I think we can combine the basic reporting capabilities of Cognos into Power BI allowing us to eliminated unnecessary infrastructure. Today, we are using Cognos mainly for formatted reporting.

RE: Cognos

Getting the primarary metadata -tables, fields, filters, (multiple key) relations in design language to start with- from a Cognos Framework into a power bi model would be my first priority here, i would rather get rid of Cognos instead of using two BI tools.

RE: Cognos

Direct connect to Cognos Semantic layer would be a huge plus.

Add my vote.

RE: Cognos

I'll add our vote.

We have cognos in use and want to enhance our portfolio with Power BI.
A direct connection to the Cognos Layer would help us much.
As I see attemps from competitive tools (e.g. Tableau) to provide such a connection. I agree that it would help to spread Power BI more in small-mid companies.

RE: Cognos

Hi folks - actually, I'm not real happy with our Cognos Reporting tool; particularly the needed move to the completely new CA 11.x. Have not had time to really research this tool (Power BI), but am wondering about the degree to which it might actually be a replacement for our entire Cognos investment... hence the reason I looked here; can Cognos Reports be imported, consumed somehow; by Power BI. Thanks.

RE: Cognos

We have a heavy investment in Cognos, but Report Studio and Query Studio don't offer the user-friendly interface or visualization capabilities of Power BI. Power BI doesn't offer built-in governance and as an organization we don't have the know-how or the resources to acquire the know-how for building out our semantic layers using SSAS. We would benefit heavily from using Power BI against the Cognos Semantic layer.
