New report page tooltip preview feature in the March update is great.
Would be nice if we had the option of adding this tooltip to visuals that previously didn't have a tooltip.
For example, I have a card visual. I'd like users to get one of these mini report pages pop-up when they hover over it but as this visual doesn't have a tooltip it can't be used.
Would be great if we can do this on other things like shapes and text boxes as well.

Since the initial release, we added support for table, matrix, and cards. https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-july-2018-feature-summary/#tableTooltips https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-september-2018-feature-summary/#tooltips I'll leave this idea open for now since there are some requests for shapes, textboxes, and buttons, but it would be helpful if people can comment on their use cases for report page tooltips on these non-visual report elements.

RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
Please add the tooltip function for buttons.
RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
Hi would love it if was able to add tooltips to Synoptic Panel by OKViz's add-in. Thank you!
RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
Please add also for shapes textboxes and buttons.
Usecase: in an infographic report I have some text, images, or custom visuals. When I hover over these objects want to be able to display detail data (another report page) about that object.
If you would be able to put a tooltip on a shape, than you can make a completely transparent object, and you can place that over anything you want.

I´m with Tom Weiss on this one. To be able to hover over a button or image and then show a tooltip that is set up in the same way as other custom tooltips would be very helpful. If you could somehow pass filters through the button/image (on hover) this tooltip could be setup in a standard way by the designer of the report, so that no unnecessary tooltip pages need to be created and maintained.
RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
Would like to use on an image, e.g. company logo, or button as a standard place for users to hover over to see additional notes on report.
RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
I use report page tooltips to provide a list of all filter selections on the page and also to provide a table of base sizes for the page. Both of these can take up a lot of screen real estate, so it's better to keep them out of the way in a tooltip. Currently I have the report page tooltips tied to a card visual. However, I have to create a measure to display "Hover for selected filters" or "Hover for base sizes" to put in the card. This seems ridiculous. It would make so much more sense to be able to tie these report page tooltips to a text box instead so I don't have to create extra measures to display static text.
RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
I really like the tooltips on objects (we primarily use it on table and matrix (though I could see the benefits on other objects like charts). My main concern is, that when you use in on a table/matrix is works on the hole row. You should be able to choose to only show it on a specific column (a table with lots of rows and columns) - the problem is that it shows up all the time when you use your mouse to navigate/read a specific row in the table. Just a thought from our users... :-)

Report page tooltips for buttons would be great!
We have a question mark button in every report, mouseover displays measure descriptions, hints and explanations, but with regular tooltips this can only be done in a very simplyfied way. Report page tooltips would offer much more space and design options.
We're hoping to see this soon!
RE: Report page tooltip on all objects
One thing that we've thought about doing is adding some sort of report tooltip on KPIs that could provide some additional details or quick insights. That could make a KPI tooltip useful. Alternatively, adding this option to shape or button would allow us to overlay something on top of another object (either a button or a transparent shape) that a user could hover over for more details instead of clicking into a new page. Since you can put a transparent shape or button over most other visuals without distracting too much from the rest of the report, it could add some interesting flexibility.

I have a problem with the dual axis bar line graph that occurred after last upgrade. The desktop version has the correct decimals on the items selected for the tool tip. When published the numbers go from 3 digits to maximum amount of digits. I tested the table formatting and query also but the published version won't correct to 3 digits.
