if we can lock a desktop made dashboard it will be great to share it in an enterprise.
also this will prevent the dashboard to be changed by mistake. when I click on an item this action drag the content, so I have to move it back to the initial position.

RE: Add a password protected Power BI Desktop option

Long Pending Request as the PBIX and internal data sources become very less secure with open edit query option. For security as well the data protection & mishandling this is required.

There is no way we will come to know if someone does any unauthorised change in the data model in edit query and publish to service.

Yes, I agree with the above statement, the Power BI team should develop this feature in desktop made dashboard. This feature would be very useful for many users, Power BI team please try your best efforts to launch this feature.

Thanks for your support team!

MS offers Power BI for free. I would assume this function gets realized with the Pro version, where you have the webinterface. Not implementing it will pull people into the SaS arena. Smart move, though I wish there was a chance to use it comparable to an access database, which is only for use.

RE: Add a password protected Power BI Desktop option

Password Protection is must both for the datasource security and from the development perspective if we want to restrict the users to do any changes to measures / calculations etc. In simple view only mode should be enabled for user. Any changes they want to do should be restricted.

It's very hard to protect stealing model. Even big companies are trying to steal. Please do what u can do.

RE: Add a password protected Power BI Desktop option

Keep up the good work! PBI team

Please do this asap, Password protect pbix files is very important. Most of the time we are using sales/finance data /company KPI which is very sensitive and files cannot be stored on laptops/desktop which means they are available on network and any smart-ass can access these files!

When opening pbix prompt for user login or individual file password must be implemented.

Thank you
Bills

RE: Add a password protected Power BI Desktop option

This password should not only be for the dashboard, but also for the desktop report (* .pbix file), because, as other users said, it is relatively easy to get a copy of the report data (especially using the data import mode).

RE: Add a password protected Power BI Desktop option

Currently there is no way to prevent users from accessing your data once it has been refreshed. A rogue user can "steal your whole database" just by stealling the pbix file that is not ok. Alternative is only having a live connection, not storing the data locally.

This PWD protectin feature feature would improve security a bit more.
