Right now, If I use PowerBI desktop to create a dataset, report and dashboard. I am not able to share it with a standard user. This effectively means that we have to either licence everyone as a pro (very expensive for 4k people), or not use the pro features at all (which isn't what we want).

Pro users should be able to build and schedule the PowerBI, and then be able to share with any company user using AD security groups.
Without these options the tool may not be a viable option...

If this has been declined, I will be taking this to the highest level of the Microsoft organization I have access. It is absurd to force Pro licensing for users who will only be viewing reports. I've invested a lot of time and energy into your products and this is a show stopper...you have made the folks who have put their careers into these products now have to explain to their management why they picked a solution that is so poorly licensed.

I'm in the same position as pretty much every other commenter here. Giving a Pro license to all of our users who are only viewing reports would be ludicrously cost prohibitive. We've already invested a great deal of time and effort as well as the money for all of the Pro licenses that make sense. The decision to decline this is a complete deal breaker, and it means that all of this time, effort and money has been an utter waste because we will have to start from scratch with some other solution. Hard to imagine what sort of organization could possibly make any real use of this software with this licensing plan.

It seems microsoft is playing dumb, the solution has nothing to do with the issue/request.

I agree with the comments here. If SSAS is your enterprise reporting data source, it is basically useless with this pricing model. I can see limiting what data sources can be used by report designers but I don't understand limiting report viewing by data source. You should not require users to pay for a full Pro license to simply view a report. If not free, at the very least there should be a much cheaper Pro viewing tier. Currently if your company has 1,000 employees, Power BI would cost nearly $120,000 per year for everyone to simply view a dashboard based on SSAS. Considering some of the significant feature gaps in Power BI currently vs. the competition that is a bit outrageous. Whatever MS decides to do on this, the Admin should change the status because they do not seem to be addressing the actual feature request.

Hello Haydn -

Couldn't agree more with the comments below. The real issue limiting access to dashboard based on data sources. It shouldn't matter how the data arrives and is delivered to the dashboard.

When I use Adobe Acrobat to create a PDF and send it to a colleague, he can use a free PDF reader to view it. Adobe doesn't require an Acrobat license or software to view the PDF.

This is the same thing. Free users should be able to digest data regardless of how it got there.

I have to say they entire pricing model implies that everyone is a "power" user, when in the real world that is not the case. The 1% will produce content for the 99% to view.

Haydn, this request is _not_ about fixing a bug that prevent Pro users from sharing non-pro content with free users.

Lost another oppertunity cause of the lack of existing Pro-viewing license

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

This is a must have, not being able to share a live connection report with standard users is a huge road block. It will force me to do kludgey things to get around the licensing model...ultimately cause more work for admins and report builders who will build things in PowerBI Desktop and just republish them manually every so often. Please reconsider this request, it will kill your product use if you do not think about this issue.

Yes, I want to share Pro Contents with No-Pro users.
