If I have a date/time field in my data, I should be able to view metrics by year, by month, by day, by day of week, by time of day, and so on. I should be able to drill from month down to day, back up to month, and so on.

I should also be able to ask for 'last 7 days' or '12 months ago' in my formulas, filters etc.

I shouldn't need to create a "Date" table and all of these fields in my data. As long as I have a date/time field in my data, I should be able to do this analysis easily in the Power BI report (or Q&A).

In the May release of Power BI Desktop we shipped a preview of the relative date slicer. To learn more check out this blog post: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/ In addition, the new Quick Measures feature has a bunch of time intelligence calculations that you can add to your model. Learn more about that feature here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/quick-measures-preview/

I would like to tag on a secondary issue to the date/time issue. When applying a filter to a report to isolate data from just one month, say last month, I have to repin that report to my dashboard every time I update the filter for the latest month. Any way that I can change my month filter without needing to repin?

Does the new custom visualization satisfy this some?

This is the biggest problem in Power BI. There are no decent date filters/views. I would like to have: View per week? / View per month? / A Timeline slicer (like in Excel) /..

Seems like a no brainer, are we any closer?

Wow I usually never comment on these types of things but I agree that this would be a very useful feature! Great job so far with Power BI

Just adding it to the conversation here... Excel 2016 has some cool Time grouping enhancements... please bring them over to Power BI! https://blogs.office.com/2015/10/13/time-grouping-enhancements-in-excel-2016/

Adding capabilities to easily filter by relative dates would be nice (think Tableau, Qlik, Sisense, etc). A time filter should give the ability to easily filter for past N days/weeks/months.

You were considering this almost a year ago. Its quite an important missing feature. Is it anywhere near being implemented yet?
