Right now, If I use PowerBI desktop to create a dataset, report and dashboard. I am not able to share it with a standard user. This effectively means that we have to either licence everyone as a pro (very expensive for 4k people), or not use the pro features at all (which isn't what we want).

Pro users should be able to build and schedule the PowerBI, and then be able to share with any company user using AD security groups.
Without these options the tool may not be a viable option...

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

Promoting PowerBI in the organisation is almost impossible for me, since all the great dashboards I create can not be shared with almost anyone as my company doesn't want to pay the extra licenses (and I don't blame them). What's the point of creating something that no one can see??

Yes, it is ridiculous to charge user who only view the report. My company need to provide reports to over 10k customers and if we charge the customers for the license fee monthly just to see the report I think we will start loosing our customer. So please allow free user to at least view content of the pro user's. Thanks.

Dear Microsoft,
The world of exchanging Information is quicker Than you see. Please! Distribution to e-mails from outside the Company and also "Personal mail" like Google should be implemented asap! Competing with qlikview and isense etc. Requires An open world of datavisualisation!

What a Joke! Really? Not going to work with us with more than 350 people who consume reports on a daily basis. Agree with 'Oso' MS can charge more for Pro accounts if needed and should let Pro users share dashboards with basic users.

Will explore other options like QLIK View.

Live in the comfort that it will be free some day soon. And if the PowerBI team, doesn't believe it, ask them what happened to Xamarin after Microsoft bought it, bundled in the MSDN subscriptions.

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

what a joke, So if i sign up to pro so that i can have a scheduled update more frequently than 1 per day then i can no longer share that information with anyone else unless they also upgrade.

I feel sorry for the technical team at Microsoft who create these useful tools just to have the marketing/sales department cripple them.

I strongly Agree, I am not seeing any value in the product if I have to license all users as pro, like many organizations, information is shared from few to many, and for things like KPIs the cost is not feasible at $10/head

RE: Share a Pro dashboard with a standard user

We are in the process of instrumenting our business and looking for a platform that will allow analysts and devs to create dashboards that can be shared with executive leaders via phone/tablet app. Sadly, on the basis of this thread, I will be looking elsewhere. We are an Office 365 shop and makes no sense that I can't leverage AD groups and permissions. Also makes no sense that these execs would have to pay for a license to get read only access to dashboards. MSFT you need to rethink both your naming and pricing strategy.

In that case, why not increase the price for pro user (notably admin user) say 20 dollars/ reasonable price and let us share our dashboard with non admins!

What's the use of Groups, that we try to enforce inside the organization, if we have to pay more to get people to colaborate inside them?
