I have a large set of options from which I would like to pick some specific ones and use them in a slicer to filter my data.
Currently, this is not possible while it is an implemented feature for other chart types.
I'm currently using a 100% stacked column chart as a workaround.

I'm happy to say this is now complete! In the June 2019 release of Power BI Desktop you'll see you can set visual level filters on slicers. There's one known issue where applying a measure filter to a slicer in range mode causes the visual to show an error. We'll release a fix in an interim update before the July release. Thanks for your patience and your votes, everyone!

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Changing core-functionalities like this is very frustrating

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Both for getting rid of buggy members and also just creating slicers that are tuned to specific charts where you might not want to see everything, this would be excellent.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

I'd really like this (old) function ("hack"). I use this option in almost every report I create. Please put this functionality back !!

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

I think the best way to accomplish this is to use a visual level filter.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Agreed! Have to use workarounds to achieve this right now... Please implement a slicer filtering option

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Ah I was wondering why this functionality was gone. It was a good hack :)

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

I would like to chime in on this - I'm using multiple clustered column charts to work around this issue, but I would definitely like to be able to filter my slicer options.

For example, I have ice cream in both cups and cones under the same product category 'ice cream'. I want to be able to only show relevant items (either cups or cones) in my slicer.

Please add this back in as an official feature.. or even as a hack is fine ;)

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers

Another idea:

On top of putting in a visual level filter, maybe you guys can create another check box in the field. ("show items with data only").

Currently: you have "show items with no data"
